day of tours, following breakfast, is devoted to tours of nearby historical sites with a half-day excursion to the red sandstone city of Fatehpur Sikri, an immaculately preserved, former great capital city of Emperor Akbar's enormous empire. A World Heritage Site, Fatehpur Sikri features a sequence of palaces, halls, and mosques. Among its attractions are the Buland Darwaza, the world's tallest gateway; the awe-inspiring Jama Masjid; Panch Mahal; and the mausoleum of the Sufi saint Sheikh Salim Chishti, famous for its spiritual significance.
After lunch at a local restaurant, the tour proceeds to Agra with a stopover at Sikandra, the location of the colossal tomb of Akbar the Great. This beautiful structure is the epitome of Akbar's vision of coexistence and tolerance in the blend of Hindu, Islamic, Buddhist, and Jain themes of design. The gardens around the mausoleum provide a calming oasis, and the tour is a day highlight. The visitor unwinds in the evening in a hotel or via a spa experience. A bountiful dinner is served, and visitors go to bed for the night after a culturally infused day.
