Overlooking the Pink City of Jaipur, Nahargarh Fort is one of the famous forts of Jaipur built by Sawai Madho Singh in the 18th century. The fort is located at Cheel ka Teela or Hill of Eagles and its name Nahargarh means “Abode of Tigers”. It is a majestic fort located quite close to Amber Fort and Jaigarh Fort. The fort was initially formed as a vigorous defense against the city of Jaipur. Although the fort was earlier used to be a summer retreat for the kings, it holds several palaces, temples, and landscaped gardens within its complex. The extended wall at Nahargarh Fort connects it to Jaigarh Fort on the Aravalli hill.
Within the fort lies the popular Nahargarh Biological Park and a zoo that gives visitors a sneak peek into the wilderness of the region. You can spot Asiatic lions and Bengal tigers in the reserve. The major attraction of this park is its astounding pieces of sculptures on display at the Madhavendra Palace. The fort complex even has two restaurants that offer breathtaking views of the city below and serves scrumptious Indian cuisines. History “The Fort Speaks,”

The historical events in the 18th century were like the signing of treaties with the Maratha forces that happened at the fort. It also has another intriguing story attached to it. At the time of its construction, something strange happens every single day. Whatever was built during the day used to collapse at night. The king believed that the construction work was hindered by the restless spirit of Nahar Singh Bhomia, the Rathore Prince.
Based on the advice of astrologers, the king decided to build a temple devoted to him and also name the fort to honor him Nahargarh Fort. After declaring so, the construction work of the fort went on unhindered.
