Evening Light and Sound Show in Delhi
Purana Qila stands stoically amidst wild greenery. This is a historic fortress or Old Fort which has stood witness to Delhi’s rejuvenation, periods of anarchy, and the rise and fall of empires. It is a place for the spectacular sound and light show which brings alive the history of the capital. Amidst the tranquility of the splendidly panoramic environs of Purana Qila select episodes from the annals of Delhi’s glorious and legendary past.
Built on the site of the most ancient and numerous cities of Delhi, Indraprastha, Purana Qila is roughly rectangular in shape having a circuit of nearly 2 kilometers. Its thick ramparts crowned by merlons have three gateways provided with fortifications on either side. It is beautifully surrounded by a wide moat, connected to the Yamuna River which flows to the east of the fort. The massive gateway and walls of Old Fort were built by Humayun and the foundation was laid for the new capital Dinpanah. The work was carried forward by Sher Shah Suri who displaced Humayun. Purana Qila is the venue for the spectacular sound and light show held every evening.
