Itinerary

The Delhi Historical Forts Tour will start with a pick up at the Delhi airport, railway station or hotel. Once you have checked in and refreshed yourself, begin your heritage tour.Explore the historic Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage and the place where Mughal emperors lived. Visit its huge red sandstone walls, Diwan-i-Aam, Diwan-i-Khas and royal courtyards. Later visit Salimgarh Fort which is situated beside the Red Fort and is of strategic value during Mughal and British reigns. During the evening, have a leisurely stroll in Old Delhi or visit the sound and light show at Red Fort. Overnight Stay: Delhi
 

 

Visit Purana Qila (Old Fort) after breakfast and it is thought to be one of the oldest forts in Delhi. This fort is a product of Humayun and Sher Shah Suri and it represents early Mughal and Afghan architecture. Visit Bara Darwaza, Qila-i-Kuhna Mosque and Sher Mandal.Then proceed to Humayun Tomb which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a predecessor of the Taj Mahal. It is not a fort, but it is a critical element of the Mughal heritage of Delhi. Watch light and sound show at Purana Qila in the evening (subject to availability). Overnight Stay: Delhi

 

 

In the morning, visit South Delhi to see Tughlaqabad Fort constructed by Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq. This huge destroyed fort indicates a great deal of military thinking, and sloping walls and fortifications. Then pay a visit to the Adilabad Fort which is a smaller fort constructed by Muhammad bin Tughlaq and is found near Tughlaqabad. These castles give a profound understanding of the architectural power and the city planning of the Sultanate era. Then, visit the tomb of Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq which is on the other side of a causeway which also provides historical context to the complex of the fort.

Breakfast, and then go to Feroz Shah Kotla Fort, constructed by Feroz Shah Tughlaq. Visit the fort ruins, mosque, palace ruins and the ancient Ashokan Pillar that was taken to Meerut. Then go on to see heritage sites around, like Agrasen ki Baoli, an ancient stepwell, where medieval water management systems can be seen. The evening is at leisure or optional heritage walk.
