Itinerary

The trip starts in Delhi, whereby one is driven to Haridwar in a comfortable personal vehicle. Check into a hotel and relax. During the evening, go to the Ganga Aarti at Har Ki Pauri where thousands of diyas are floating on the river and people are singing prayers. This religious initiation preconditions your religious life. Haridwar dinner and stay. Upon arriving in Haridwar, you can also get to know the local markets to buy spiritual souvenirs such as rudraksha malas and small idols. The peaceful environment around the ghats towards the late evening provides the pilgrimage journey with a serene beginning.

 

Breakfast, drive to Barkot, the base Yamunotri. You can also take brief breaks at Mussoorie or Kempty falls on your way to have a photograph or take a break. Barkot is a peaceful town with green valleys and hills. Stay in a nice hotel, dine and sleep over to visit Yamunotri the following day   Go further into the hills and enjoy the cool mountain air and the shifting scenery. The scenic road is scenic with spectacular scenes of winding roads and distant Himalayan mountain ranges and the journey in itself is unforgettable..

 

Early start and drive to Janki Chatti which is the starting point of the Yamunotri trek. Pony rides or palkis can be used by elderly people to access the temple. Pray before Goddess Yamuna at Yamunotri Temple and also take a holy bath in the Surya Kund hot spring which is said to purify sins and grant blessings. Dinner at Barkot, and stay there over night. The pilgrimage environment is covered by waterfalls and rocky mountain trails that make the trek route more interesting. Believers usually sing bhajans on the climb and make the atmosphere spiritually encouraging.

 

Breakfast and then drive to Uttarkashi, a religious town of the Bhagirathi River. Get into your hotel and have a rest. During evening, go to Vishwanath Temple and Shakti Temple. Take a stroll by the river or take a break in the hotel. Night and dinner in Uttarkashi. Uttarkashi is the ashram centre of spiritual learning with numerous ancient ashrams. It is a perfect place of meditation and reflection in the course of the yatra because of the quiet surroundings.

 

Breakfast, and then drive to Gangotri, the seat of the sacred Ganga. The route goes through the picturesque Harsil Valley with pine trees and Himalayan landscape. At the Gangotri Temple, have a holy bath in the Ganga River and pray. Take time to have a peaceful time and then go back to Uttarkashi to have dinner and stay overnight. There is a lot of natural beauty around the area of Gangotri including glaciers and thick forests. Go to the Ardh Narishwar Temple, the temple of Lord Shiva in the evening. Overnight and dinner at Guptkashi. The Chaukhamba peaks on a bright day give panoramic views of Guptkashi. The quiet mountain scene is a relaxing rest before progressing to the Kedarnath shrine.

 

Go to Sonprayag, the starting point of the Kedarnath trek. It is possible to have helicopter services or pony/palki ride by senior travelers to the 18 km trek. Visit Kedarnath Temple in the evening to see the Aarti with grand snow-capped mountains. Thence off to Rudraprayag, the meeting of rivers Alaknanda and Mandakini. Leisure evening to take in the calm junction of the river. Dinner and overnight stay. Mana Village represents the old Himalayan culture including the use of stone houses and hospitality. The picturesque intersection of the rivers at Rudraprayag is also a relaxing view particularly at sunset.

 

Breakfast, and drive back to Haridwar, passing Devprayag, where Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers unite to form the sacred Ganga. Go on to Delhi and complete the Senior Citizen Char Dham Yatra with all the sweet memories of the spirituality, the Himalayan scenery and the divine blessings. Pilgrims also take back holy memories and spiritual empowerment they have acquired in the process of the yatra as they come back.
