Spiti Valley Road Trip Tour

After breakfast start your trip to Kalpa through Rampur and Reckong Peo, along the spectacular Sutlej along the way. The view gradually changes to rugged Himalayan scenery as opposed to pine woods.

Upon arrival, visit the Kalpa village that has apple orchards and a scenic view of the Kiner Kailash range. Explore the Roghi Village or just unwind in front of mountain scenery as the sun goes down through snow-topped mountains.

The trip now brings you further into desert scenery at great elevation. Drive through Nako Lake, a tranquil high altitude lake that is ideal to take a short walk and have a tea break.

The entrance of Spiti Valley is Cross Sumdo. With the decline of green, one can see only mountainous landscapes, bare and full of drama and dramatic rocky structures. Visit Tabo, the headquarters of the millennium-old Tabo Monastery, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to ancient scripture and murals. Overnight stay in Tabo.

Breakfast, and go to Tabo Monastery and Tabo Caves where monks used to meditate in the past. Keep on to Dhankar, which is melodramatically situated on a cliff at the head of the Spiti River. Visit Dhankar Monastery and with energy allowing, go on a small hike to Dhankar Lake to see a stunning view of the valley. Keep on driving to the administrative capital of Spiti Valley, Kaza. Today will be spent touring the areas around Kaza. Explore the most famous place Key Monastery, which is the biggest and most photographed monastery in Spiti.

Go on to Kibber Village, which was one of the highest motorable villages in the world, then to Gette and Langza, the village of the giant Buddha statue and marine fossils. Mingle with locals to know how life is at its extremes.

Return to Kaza by evening. Overnight stay in Kaza.

Get to the verdant Pin Valley National Park which is a marked contrast to the dry Spiti terrain. Visiting Kungri Monastery, the oldest monastery of the Nyingma sect. Take a walk up the Pin River, watching Himalayan birds and savoring the quietness of such villages as Mud. It is a slower day with a close one-on-one connection with the natural beauty of Spiti.

Early departure to the famous Chandratal Lake, passing through the high altitude Kunzum Pass. The motivation is adventurous, crude and aesthetically pleasing.

Upon arrival, a leisurely stroll around the crescent-shaped lake, which is known to change color with the passing of time, is a must. Night times in this place are enchanted with clear skies and starlight nights. Camping around Chandratal.

Breakfast and then drive to Manali via Batal and Gramphu. It is a rocky and exciting section, which provides panoramas with glaciers, waterfalls, and spectacular river crossings. As you go down, the scenery turns to green valleys and pine woods. By evening, I arrive at Manali and spend the night in a nice hotel. Overnight stay in Manali.

Wake up and have a slow morning while enjoying a comforting breakfast. Visit Hadimba Temple, Old Manali cafes or, have a brief stroll through the Beas River. You can also explore local handicraft or you can just relax. Overnight stay in Manali.
